Alex Burkowsky is an undergraduate researcher enrolled in the School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.He currently is working toward an Honors BS Degree in neuroscience with a minor in statistics and chemistry.Alex is pre-med and plans to attend medical school following graduation in the spring of 2011.
Alex developed a passion for neuroscience and psychiatric research through studying mental disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.In the Moghaddam Lab, he is conducting combined pharmacological and behavioral studies pertaining to stress/anxiety as possible risk factors for the development of psychiatric disorders such as PTSD and schizophrenia.Specifically, he has been training rats in an operant set-shifting paradigm.Additionally, Alex will be investigating the effects of omega-3 fatty acid deficiency on rat development and cognition.
