Alex Burkowsky

 
Biography
 

Alex Burkowsky is an undergraduate researcher enrolled in the School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. He currently is working toward an Honors BS Degree in neuroscience with a minor in statistics and chemistry. Alex is pre-med and plans to attend medical school following graduation in the spring of 2011. 

Alex developed a passion for neuroscience and psychiatric research through studying mental disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In the Moghaddam Lab, he is conducting combined pharmacological and behavioral studies pertaining to stress/anxiety as possible risk factors for the development of psychiatric disorders such as PTSD and schizophrenia. Specifically, he has been training rats in an operant set-shifting paradigm. Additionally, Alex will be investigating the effects of omega-3 fatty acid deficiency on rat development and cognition.
